Remembering the Jesus Movement: What are we doing here?

wantedjesusStop Bashing the Megachurch, Ed!

Before we get into the “stop bashing the megachurch” debate, maybe we need to step back and reexamine the role of a church.

Measure This

Why does the church exist? It would seem that Jesus was clear: “To make disciples.”

How does the church accomplish its purpose? It would seem Paul was clear: “Equip the saints for the work of the ministry.”

What is the role of the leader? It would seem Peter was clear: “Shepherd the flock…by serving.”

And what makes a leader great? The Lord said it, not me: “Those who put themselves last and serve everyone else.”

So, there’s our measure.

Not only for the megachurch, but for all churches.

Mine, yours, theirs.

Simple Church

That’s what we did during the Jesus Movement. But we lost our way and became corporate and sophisticated.

We forgot the simplicity of Christ and His movement.

But time’s running out. And what we’re doing now isn’t working.

Time to remember the simple basics again.
